The Best Doughnuts in London
Who doesn’t love a good doughnut? With our quick guide you can sample the best doughnuts in London.
Who doesn’t love a good doughnut? With our quick guide you can sample the best doughnuts that London has to offer.
1) Bread Ahead
You’ll find Bread Ahead’s original stall over in Borough Market, and whilst they make some rather tasty breads and other treats it’s the doughnuts that they’ve become particularly famed for. These doughnuts are made in an old-fashioned way and they’re a lot better for it. We recommend popping over and sampling one of the basic old school raspberry jam doughnuts for that perfect blast of nostalgia.
You can find Bread Ahead in Borough Market from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm.
2) Doughnut Time
Doughnut Time now has a small selection of stores dotted across London, but perhaps the easiest one to visit is the Shaftsbury Avenue store in Soho. Here you will find a wide selection of over the top artisan doughnuts glazed, filled, and topped with a variety of ingredients – and whilst they may appear sickly at first glance, we really do recommend trying them… just maybe not all on the same day.
3) Crosstown Doughnuts
Crosstown Doughnuts started life in 2014 as a market stall and has since expanded into numerous stores and markets across London, their Marylebone store at Picton Place is a dedicated Vegan paradise and well worth a visit. Crosstown’s Vegan doughnuts feature a range of plant-based alternative ingredients to help achieve the same taste and texture as their original doughnuts, they also use chia seeds and coconut butter in their dough, and a combo of oat milk, coconut butter, dairy-free dark chocolate and silken tofu to make the glazes and fillings. As you can imagine, we highly recommend a visit!
4) Dominique Ansel Bakery
The home of the original Cronut, need we say more? Half croissant, half doughnut, and created by an award-winning chef. Each month is a new flavour, for March the flavour is Gooseberry & Rose, a homemade gooseberry jam and creamy rose ganache. They aren’t cheap but they are most highly recommended, to procure a cronut you’ll need to place an order on their website.
Bird isn’t just a great fried chicken and waffles joint, it also makes a cracking doughnut. The Doughnut Hatch at each Bird restaurant serves freshly made Canadian-style glazed doughnuts featuring a glaze that alternates daily. The doughnuts are only available until they're sold out, and they do sell out quick! Expect doughnut ice cream sandwiches and cinnamon sugar-coated mini-Doughnut holes served with chocolate or toffee fudge dipping sauce! You can find Bird at Westfield Stratford, Chalk Farm Road Camden, Kingsland Road Shoreditch or in Islington on the Holloway Road.
